Wanted: Volunteers to serve on URFMSI technical committee
The URFMSI board is looking for members interested in serving on the technical committee. Most of the folks who maintain the repeaters we enjoy every day live in the Albuquerque area. We are looking not only for additional members, but members who live near URFMSI repeaters elsewhere in the state. Desired skills include experience commercial 2-way radio installation and repair, tower climbing, and C programming. If interested, please email the Upper Rio FM Society at info@urfmsi.org.
147.08 Chama repeater temporarily QRT
URFMSI coverage on 2 meters in the Chama area is temporarily QRT due to the repeater’s surrounding land having been sold for development. At the request of the new owners, the repeater has been dismantled. A new location is being sought by the URFMSI.
- We are looking for any URFMSI members in Chama or its surrounding area who might be interested in helping serve as a trustee (available to troubleshoot and perhaps conduct maintenance if needed) for the repeater once reinstalled. More details are found in our ‘ad’ for new technical committee members above.
New 575 area code and autopatches
As you read this the use of the 575 area code is now mandatory to call many places across New Mexico. The Upper Rio FM Society is modifying its linking system to allow for phone patches in this new area code.
- Autodial codes: Converting the 3-digit autodial codes of members living within the new 575 area code is underway and will be completed as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience! In the meantime any member may manually dial phone numbers in the 575 area code.
- Manual dialing into the 575 area code: A new autopatch access code for dialing into the 575 area code has been created, and is being printed on the membership cards of those renewing. Full, family and life members: Please refer to your current membership card. See the DTMF code to dial a number within the 505 area code? Increase the number you see by one and that’s the new code to dial 575 numbers. If there’s any confusion or questions, please email the Upper Rio FM Society. Please do not discuss any DTMF access codes over the airwaves.
Lease signed for URFMSI Hub relocation
January 2007 brougth news that Building 509, located on Kirtland AFB was ordered to vacate as part of a Department of Defense Enhanced Use Leasing (EUL) program which is intended to develop vacant land at our military installations to -- among other things -- create revenue to fund certain programs. The URFMSI's central linking facility (Hub) has resided in this building for over 20 years.
Despite engaging New Mexico's congressional delegation, KAFB officials, city officials and members of private industry, we were unable to retain our residency within Building 509.
At its April 2008 meeting, the URFMSI board of directors authorized the relocation to another building on Kirtland AFB. The least has been signed and while no hard eviction date has been given to the URFMSI to vacate Building 509, efforts to relocate to the new facility will commence in the near future.
The Board wishes to thank all of its members, the surrounding ham community, and all those who've contributed their time, effort, money, and patience during this ordeal.
Time to pay your dues?
The last column of the latest membership roster indicates when your dues will expire. The date also appears on all mailing labels of club mailings, as well as your membership card. We thank you for your continued support of the Upper Rio FM Society and its repeater/linking system.
